Tuesday, February 1, 2022 - 6:30 PM

This introductory workshop is intended to give you a feel for what the HighZ S-1000T CNC router is capable of and a basic overview of how to use the machine.

Participants will have the opportunity to machine a small wooden bowl. The goal of the workshop is for you to walk away “knowing what you don’t know” so that you have a good starting place for further exploration on your own.

Covered topics include an introduction to techniques for holding and locating a workpiece, cutter types, feeds and speeds, etc. This course does not cover topics related to designing a part, CAM (preparing machining toolpaths), etc. (everything that needs to happen before you are able to machine a part).

Have you ever been interested in blacksmithing? Well, why not DO IT?

Attendees will learn to make hooks and leaves from solid steel.

This workshop will be presented by Dustin Schreiber, a historical smith that has been working in shops for over 3 years. Dustin will be assisted by the experienced and talented Dennis Neubauer, who is widely known for his forging workshops.

We will begin at 9am. The ending time is scheduled for 5pm, but we expect to finish earlier.

We will be working with hot metal; attendees should dress appropriately (closed toe shoes and long pants). Leather gloves and apron are not required, but you may bring them if you have them available and wish to do so. We have a limited quantity of safety glasses and hearing protection available; attendees may bring their own if they wish. We will supply all the materials and tools you need to learn and have fun.

Cost: $45.00 (non-members) / $25.00 (members)

With the increase in levels of the Delta -- and now Omicron -- variants of Covid-19, and the resulting state mandates, we are limiting the number of classes and other events that we offer. We look forward to things returning to "normal," and having more events on our calendar. Please stay safe and exercise appropriate precautions. We look forward to seeing you soon!
