Have you heard about the Internet of Things (IoT), Arduinos and Raspberry Pis and want to know what all the excitement is about? Did you receive an Arduino or Raspberry Pi as a gift and want to actually do something with it?
This 5-part series begins with the basics and helps you work through to advanced features and capabilities of these devices.
Session 1: In this brief presentation, you will be introduced to the Arduino open-source electronic prototyping platform, the Raspberry Pi single-board computer hardware and software and other IoT hardware and software. You will learn what they have in common, how they differ, and some of the common uses of each.
Session 2: In this session you'll learn how to install Raspbian (Linux) on the Raspberry Pi, configure the system, and use the GUI-based operating system and its various packages.
Session 3: In this session, you'll learn how to extend the operating system, use the command line and do some rudimentary scripting. This is primarily a Linux course, but we will introduce basic control of the Raspberry Pi GPIO ports from the command line.
Session 4: This session is a hands-on class teaching introductory Python language programming. The language basics will be taught, and we will introduce using Python to implement rudimentary control of the Raspberry Pi GPIO ports.
Session 5: This session is a much more in-depth hands-on class teaching how to interface various hardware input and output devices to the Raspberry Pi, and monitor/control them with either Python or Linux command-line scripting.
